Charlie Sheen Wants to Cut the Cost of HIV/AIDS Medication

Charlie Sheen recently came forward to tell the world about his personal struggle with HIV which he had kept under wraps for several years. The actor, who is known for his wild behaviour, has commented that he wants to do something positive and is examining the potential to make HIV/AIDS medication more affordable, as he personally pays $4,000 a month for pills he takes three times a day. He commented:

“I have to take three pills each day. The total cost is about $4,000 a month. I know that’s prohibitive to a lot of people’s economic scenarios. Perhaps in my research, and in my journey, we can help develop ways that make it affordable for all.”

He added that he wants to improve the lives of those suffering from the condition because he wants his children to be proud of him:

“They’re going to see that dad is a true hero. That he helped a lot of people and continues to help people who can’t help themselves.”

Charlie is well known for battling alcohol and drug addiction, and he admits he did drink heavily when he first got his diagnosis but also believes he has the ability to be sober:

“It was to suffocate the anxiety and what my life was going to become with this condition and getting so numb I didn’t think about it. It was the only tool I had at the time, so I believed… that would quell a lot of that angst, a lot of that fear. And it only made it worse. There was a stretch where I didn’t drink for 11 years. No cocaine, no booze for 11 years. So I know that I have that in me.”
