Kanye West on Taylor Swift: I “Just Said What Everybody Else Was Thinking”

The rapper made many enemies the night he stormed the stage and took over Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. He reveals that that in the moment he felt he “just said what everybody else was thinking” but it ended up momentarily hurting his career. Lady Gaga quickly pulled out of their joint tour and he was left fighting to get back on track:

“And I had to fight every day for the rest of my life with the whole world turned against me for saying out loud what everyone else felt. But that’s the job of the artist, of a true artist: not to be controlled by their finances, not to be controlled by perception, but only to be controlled by their truth.”

He has now addressed his feelings on the subject in his song ‘Famous’, a track on his newly released album ‘The Life of Pablo’. He explained why he wrote the track and mentioned Taylor:

“This is the song that broke the writer’s block for me, because it’s something I wanted to say so bad that they told me I couldn’t say. That night when I went on stage was the beginning of the end of my life. Lady Gaga canceled the tour the next day. You know what night I’m talking about, when I just said what everybody else was thinking. So if I get in trouble for saying the truth, what’s being said the rest of the time?”
